I don't know why, but this might be my favorite comedy. The awkwardness of the characters, the need to belong, the complete unconcern about being " the other - this is the best written and acted comedy series I can think of.The first episode was...not enthralling; will this be another "make fun of the nerds" show? By the second, I was intrigued - hooked by the third. By the end of the third series, I was desperate for more.

I've just discovered this wonderful, gentle comedy and just love the world and characters that Mackenzie Crook has created. Particularly now, when the world seems so dark, politically, environmentally and socially, I find it distracting in the best possible way. I'm in California watching our poor state burning down, and it sounds silly, but thank you Mackenzie Crook for the much needed affirmation of decent people living in a beautiful little corner of England.

Watched it as part of Acorn kickoff in US. Loved it down to the undisturbed dirt. Oddballs with intellect, Eccentrics that aren't lunes, Uneven personalities that are just doing the best they can. Great fun and sorry we won't see more.

This is such an enjoyable series. Not overboard with pranks, bad language or innuendo. Its humor is based in human nature of the common human being. It is simple in the genius way The Detectorist brings a peaceful and contented smile that doesn't go away. My teen grandson has started to watch it with us.
