wkhodeer good movie but the process of the movie kind of slow but after all it's good drama movie the story about poor man who is a friend of a famous bollywood star he think his friend has forget about him and he struggle when his friend come to the village he lives in to shout a movie and billu wife give the villagers promise to meet him personally
sumanbarthakursmailbox Priyadarshan as a director is astonishingly variable – he makes great films like Virasat, Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiya and Malaamaal Weekly. And then he makes ones like Mere Baap Pehle Aap, Bhagam Bhag and now this terrible-Billu Barber. Billu Barber too suffers from what can be described as the 'hurried' effect. You never get a sense of the geography of Budbuda village or its colorful inhabitants. Interesting comic characters - like those played by Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Asrani - are introduced to us, but never fully exploited. The screenplay is choppy, jumping from a Sahir Khan item-number, to an emotional moment between Billu and his wife, to a comic scene involving a junior artiste on Sahir's film set. It's all done without much thought and as a result the film doesn't achieve the emotional tone that is so desperately required. Somewhere between the way-too-many songs, you may catch snatches of the story. Billu's premise is inspired by the tale we all love – the one about Lord Krishna and his poverty-stricken friend Sudama, where Lord Krishna embraces him despite the glaring gap between their worlds. The key problem in director Priyadarshan uses Shah Rukh excessively, and in a manner that ultimately hurts this simple film. By portraying SRK as a larger-than-life star who flies around in a helicopter and is surrounded by a battery of beefy bodyguards everywhere he goes, the director succeeds in establishing that Billu and Sahir belong to completely different worlds, but in giving SRK so much screen-time he also distracts your attention from Billu's now-disrupted life, which is really the film's central story. In contrast, in the original Malayalam film, the superstar played by Mammooty gets very limited time on screen, and unlike Sahir Khan, his unattainability is reflected in the fact that you see such little of him. The star of this film - no questions asked - is the abundantly gifted Irrfan Khan who invests such sincerity in the character of Billu, that you can't take your eyes off him. Even in scenes without dialogue, he is a presence hard to ignore, and even when the script wobbles it's only Irrfan who holds it all together with an extraordinary portrayal of everydayness. It's difficult to imagine anyone else but Irrfan play Billu so convincingly.Watch it for Irrfan Khan but at the same time be prepared for the sleep of your life in the cinema!!
Avinash Patalay I was sceptical about SRK teaming with Priyan leading to another Paheli. Priyan ensures that he is at the helm of the affairs and does not let his vision undergo dilution. Billu is about Billu and thereby Billu gets maximum mileage. SRK's is confined to the parts where he is required and yes, of course the item songs.Irfan does his part to the utmost satisfaction. The only grumbling is his sarcasm in the state of poverty which doesn't go quite well. Lara Dutta is the surprise package and she carries herself as the villager-wife to the "T".The usual Priyan's regulars are present (except Paresh Rawal, thankfully not a force-fit) and they are as usual dependable. SRK uses the tailor-made opportunity for being a spokesperson for himself, so it is "Me, Me and only Me" in Sahir Khan's part and yet another inner/outer world. Only in the last scene, SRK drops his mask and attempts to give a glimpse into his inner world. Humour is present in adequate doses, so don't expect an out-and-out regular Priyan comedy. The opening credit deserve a special mention, very creative. Finally, the modern version of Krishna-Sudama was not appropriately justified.
mpithapurwala This movie is absolutely terrible. Priyadarshan seems to have lost his touch. I can't believe this is the same director who made movies like Hera Pheri. The idea of the movie is quite novel. But the problem is the execution. The movie is super-slow. The same things keep repeatedly, until you are too bored to yawn !! The movie really needed much slicker editing. There are some light moments. Some joes actually do feel funny. However it is like a diamond in coal mine. Believe me spare yourself the torture and spend the 2 hours some place better !
