adonis98-743-186503 A man with a thirst for revenge builds a full body armor from Kevlar and goes on a killing spree. Rampage is a flick that pushes Boll's own stupidity but also his pack of untalented mess of scripts plus his own political agenda too. I didn't like the main character both in terms of perfomance but also as a character in general cause he was just mad at the world and wanted to kill innocent people like please i've seen way better than this abomination of a movie that Uwe Boll directed. If you wanna see something better? Go and watch the sea it's beautiful. (0/10)
brewster139 I watch a lot of horror titles mostly because I like the B movie element that exists within this genre without ever really being genuinely creeped out or scared. Rampage however is a true horror movie in that it portrays an event that is all too familiar to anyone who watches the news in the so called, "civilized" west. From Hungerford(Uk)to the many tragedies meted out every year in America this film delivers an almost all too real truth and it does so in a mesmerizing and highly unpalatable manner. This is not a criticism either, a film of this nature needs to be visceral and needs to lack sense or at least rationality that the "normal" person can comprehend. Uwe Boll has his critics and lets be honest rightly so but this is a film which I didn't expect to like or appreciate. As you are probably sensing from my tone in this review the reverse was true - or at least I was fully engaged throughout but I am not completely sure I can like a movie which is almost too real. Violence in films is so often glorified and romanticized (Uwe Boll himself is surely guilty of this)but after watching Rampage I think the director has certainly realigned the balance between what is acceptable violence for narrative purposes and what is purely gratuitous. Overall Rampage is a well constructed, well acted film that is highly effective in delivering a horror movie that is more horrifying than the vast majority of movies out there - mainly because it skillfully portrays an "unpalatable truth".
Wizard-8 Let's face it - Uwe Boll has made some pretty bad movies in his career, like "House of the Dead" and "In The Name of the King". But in recent years the critical reaction to some of his movies like "Tunnel Rats" haven't been that bad. In fact, I thought "Assault on Wall Street", while not perfect, was okay. My reaction to that movie was why I decided to watch "Rampage", which shared the theme of someone reaching the breaking point and going on a rampage. After watching it, my feelings are mixed. To be sure, it's better than some other Boll movies. For one thing, the acting is surprisingly good, feeling natural and giving the scenes an almost documentary feeling. The movie wisely doesn't give us easy answers to why the main character does what he ultimately does, instead leaving us to determine why from some hints here and there. (Boll seems to be suggesting that rampages can't be easily explained, which I think is realistic.) And the rampage sequence, which takes up most of the running time, has some very effective moments. The violence does not feel fun, and is genuinely horrifying at time - which is how it should be. However, the movie is almost ruined by Boll's decision to use hand held cameras for the most part. That's doesn't automatically ruin things, but Boll has the camera operators CONSTANTLY bobbing the cameras greatly and zooming in and out to what is happening. Needless to say, this is greatly distracting. I think Boll was trying some kind of "cinema verite" atmosphere, but he went too far in this direction if you ask me. Another problem is that some of the characters are extremely stupid. When the rampage starts, people are too dumb to immediately get out of the area or even lock their doors. While I will admit that the movie has some genuine power, it also has some severe problems. Let's hope Boll learned from his mistakes in this movie and that the upcoming sequels are a significant improvement.
jackmeat My quick rating - 6,3/10. Basically the same movie as the sequel (which I accidentally watched first).Basically a young adult goes against the system and goes on a killing spree to try and teach the world a lesson. There is plenty of propaganda in this movie, but it isn't that far off, just a tad bit too extreme. Still entertaining, albeit violent and mean spirited. Extra couple tenths of a point for an interesting end(easy to guess) and a slight bit better job acting. Oh, and always nice to see max headroom" in a movie LOLHopefully Uwe Boll can continue the upward mobility in movie making, since his last 3 that I have seen have been pretty good, and that is hard to say with a straight face after the crap he has made in the past, but still true.
