lorreann Sure why it's a sequel because the story has no connection to the first one. They just copied some of the things from the first movie such as nosebleeds and memory loss. The time traveling didn't have the same purpose as the first and everything seemed haphazard. It was maybe entertaining but the plot wasn't profound or meaningful. And I really hate that every movie injects a vivid sex scene right in the middle so I have to rush to fast forward through inappropriate scenes.
Wizard-8 I *did* see the original "The Butterfly Effect" years ago, but so much time has passed since then that I hardly remember much about it, except that I thought it was mediocre. But if you are in the same boat, or simply didn't see the original movie at all, no problem - this sequel, while having the same basic idea as the original, takes place with entirely new characters. There are a number of problems with this sequel I could go on for some time describing, from the cheap made for TV-like feel to the fact that the hero's special talent is not really explained. But I think the biggest problem with this movie is that for the most part it feels "soft". For the majority of the running time, you never feel the hero is in a situation that is over his head. He takes most of his new predicaments surprisingly casually. Since he doesn't seem to be all that bothered, it's hard to care about him or his loved ones. Or for the movie as a whole, for that matter.
ersinkdotcom You can bank on it that if a film is a mild success in theaters, studios will find a way to exploit the situation and make more money off the concept. The best example of this is the thousands of direct-to-DVD sequels that litter the walls of movie rental stores across the country. Most are pale reflections of the originals. Every once in a while a sequel comes along that doesn't improve on the first one, but still manages to entertain. "The Butterfly Effect 2" falls into this category. It's both entertaining and thought-provoking at the same time. I saw "The Butterfly Effect" when it hit DVD a few years ago and liked it. I never got around to seeing the sequel but remained mildly interested in checking it out because it starred Erica Durance from "Smallville." I'm glad I had the opportunity to see it.Nick, his girlfriend Julie, and their two best friends are struck by a semi on the way home from vacation. Everyone is killed but Nick, leaving him alone to deal with the aftermath of the tragedy. He discovers he has the power to travel to the past and change events in his life. Nick starts to alter reality and finds that each jump back in time isn't necessarily changing things for the better… in the present or the future. You can tell director John R. Leonetti put his blood, sweat, and tears into this movie but was limited as to what he could do because of the budget. It doesn't feel like a straight-to-DVD movie besides some of the camera-work. The wreck looks realistic and most of the time-warp scenes look decent. The special effects aren't perfect by any means but get the job done. One issue with the film is that there are points where it reminds me of a late-night Cinemax skin flick. There are some soft-core porn sequences that feel placed in the film to attract that audience base. I feel it cheapens the movie and takes the focus off of a relatively decent storyline. "The Butterfly Effect 2" stands on its own and doesn't require anyone who didn't see the first film from grasping what's happening. It's strictly for people who enjoyed "The Butterfly Effect" and couldn't get enough or those who never saw it and just happen upon this one first.
atinder I really like this The Butterfly Effect (2004) I think that great movie, really well made.I did not even know this movie was made it until i find out about The Butterfly effect 3 two years ago, I was like what, when did they make the second after that seen all the review mostly bad ones.I was not going to watch this movie at all but two days ago I saw this movie for 75P, I could not say no to that. This movie is about guy who was in a car crash that killed his pregnant girl friend and two of his other friends and after he came out of his coma.He can now look old pictures and come back in time when the picture was taken and change is life for the better, but he just makes is life worse. The ending was so predictable, how can no one see that coming! The acting in this movie was descent for a sequel that went Straight to DVD 3 out of 10
