Synopsis

As a fan of Albert Camus and Jean-Luc Godard, teenage Nick Twisp is definitely out of his element when his mother and her boyfriend move the family to a trailer park. When a pretty neighbor named Sheeni plays records by French crooners, it's love at first sight for frustrated and inexperienced Nick. Learning that she is dating someone, Nick launches a hilarious quest to find his way into Sheeni's heart -- and bed.

Morten_5 Another film with Michael Cera as a somewhat odd and misfit teenager. Despite being 21 here, Cera still make you believe he's 16.With "Youth in Revolt", frequent TV series director Miguel Arteta - assisted by screenwriter Gustin Nash and C.D. Payne, author of the original novel - delivers a fun, weird and heart- warming little romantic comedy-drama. Appearances by Zach Galifianakis, Justin Long, Ray Liotta and Steve Buscemi add to the sense of strange humour, but the film really belongs to Cera and his special charm.
ineverov90 This film was a big thrill for me. i did not expect it to be so good. It is a unique flick. I like it boldness, in terms where screenwriters can take u. It reminded me of Kevin Smiths film Red State which based itself on giving the viewer what he expected the least. I advise this film to all because it such a fun break from all the sequels, prequels and other clichéd garbage Hollywood feed us now days.Cast did a good job transitioning book into movie, Cers's best performance(also great in Scott Pilgrimm vs the World) I watched this film never knowing it is based on the book, bet your ass i'm gonna read it now.it is my first review, the only other film that i wanted to write review for is In Bruges, but it is already received pretty good and this movie is underrated for some reason. Sorry for my bad English, i am Russian.
Jimmy Collins Pheew! What a joy it is to see Michael Cera playing a role so different to his usual role, granted he does okay that role in this film but he also plays the wonderful Francois, the alter ego of Nick Twisp, the alter ego that turns Nick into the rebel that will help him bag the girl. Youth In Revolt has it all, humor of all types, lots of raunch, a great script, and a terrific cast that are all totally suited to their roles. This movie is based on a series of young adult novels, however to me this movie was very adult and probably aimed more at an older crowd, the sex talk and raunchy jokes are hilarious and I think you have to have some life experience to fully understand the film. Michael Cera is so great, yes he is very very very typecast but he finally does something different and it really suits him, he should look out for more roles like this in the future. The supporting cast are divine, I particularly loved Jean Smart as Nick's mother, she is very reminiscent if Kim Cattrall in this role, but she's always really good, Portia Doubleday is good in a breakout role but her character comes so close to being hatable, I kind of just wanted Nick/Francois to forget about Sheeni and go pursue an equally rebellious gal.Comedy fans rejoice, this movie is original, hilarious and extremely entertaining, fingers crossed for a sequel and fast. :) hooray for Nick Twisp!
gigan-92 Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed this film, laughed throughout in fact, but as a whole I have to be critical. Including in comparison to other films similar to its nature and when it comes to films involving teens and sex, there are many to choose from. It's been a done a million times, so it's nice to see refreshing and moderately realistic scenario and character interaction, like that of "Superbad" or "Juno". The cast, for one thing is damn amazing. There are many excellent actors, like Steve Buscemi and Ray Liotta, both did wonderfully. Zack Galifianakis and Justin Long were very well into their characters and I loved them on screen. A lot of the characters are pretty memorable, an aspect I enjoyed. I enjoyed seeing the character interaction which is the key to film-making at the base of it all. But Michael Cera as the awkward-nobody is beyond overdone. Sorry, but at this point I've seen too many times. Only when he's donning the Francois persona do I admire his performance and really embrace him as a character. Not to mention the whole plot at a glance makes his character seem rather pathetic really. He steals cars, travels hundreds of miles, sabotages the girl's education, among many other ridiculous things all for one girl who half the time doesn't really seem to care about him that much. It's a love story I just can't connect with despite my attempts to. So check this one out for some crude laughs but not a masterpiece by any means.C+
