benettfreeman The plot is Rob Zombie-esque, and there isn't a single redeeming quality to make up for how gratuitously nasty nearly all of the scenes are. After a horrific opening few minutes, the level of sickness rises as the movie goes on, until it reached a level where a sick feeling rose up that I haven't experienced since I came across Cannibal Holocaust when I was 18.No part of the story actually makes sense, and I really feel like everyone in this was just desperate for money except Bill and Julia, who frankly I will never look at the same again. When I watched 'Truth or Consequences, New Mexico', there was a moment when it dawned on me that it actually WAS the case that it was the kind of movie that Kiefer Sutherland always wanted to make.Clearly, Bill Pullman and Julia Ormond secretly wanted to be in a video nasty.Unless you actually like really depressing and graphic violence, skip this film.
NateWatchesCoolMovies Jen Lynch 's Surveillance is a twisted, unnerving piece of psychological horror that fries your synapses with uncomfortably bizarre characters and a sketchy, voyeuristic tone that bores right through your comfort zone into a place of primal terror. On a desolate stretch of highway, several brutal murders occur, perpetrated by two nasty masked fiends. The few people in the area include a vacationing family who are terrorized by two deplorably bored, perverted 'police officers' (one of whom, weirdly enough, is played by French Stewart). The local police captain (Michael Ironside) calls the bureau for help, and two FBI agents arrive, played by a silky Bill Pullman, and a vigilant, enigmatic Julia Ormond. They interview the involved parties, including the daughter of the family (Ryan Simpkins, scarily good). I won't say any more about the story itself. The tone of the film is one of constant clammy dread, and director Lynch churns the cogs of suspense to dizzying speeds of sickly tension. The third act revelations provide juicy, psycho-sexual scenes for the actors to bask in, some of which will disturb you to your core. It's not a pretty affair, but it grabs you with its alluring spell of asylum worthy shenanigans, and doesn't let go til the final frame.
daggersineyes About 5 minutes into this movie I was feeling mildly interested - seemed like that was a story here. A few minutes later I was getting annoyed with all of the characters & their uninteresting personalities & numerous badly developed back stories. After 20 mins I started skipping ahead and couldn't bring myself to care about anyone or anything. I already had the "twist" worked out, not that it took much actual work so obviously telegraphed as it was. I gave up about 2 thirds through and jumped ahead to the ending. Sure enough, predictable & stupid. I can't put my finger on exactly what was so awful about this movie but it was one of the worst I've seen. I think it was trying too hard, thought itself too clever, took itself too seriously and unfortunately, it was badly directed/scripted/acted etc. A lame story badly told. I felt angry at having wasted time on the thing. Don't bother.
siderite The name of the movie, as well as the cast itself, made me think it would be a good one. Yeah, alright, Julia Ormond is playing TV now and Bill Pullman didn't do much lately and Michael Ironside was always good, but in a supporting cast, but the three of them together must mean something good. Instead it was a very boring slasher movie, only the sadistic killers used all weapons at their disposal. But the problems don't stop there. Most of the characters were designed to be extremely obnoxious, so much that didn't feel real, not to mention completely unlikable. So without someone to relate to, you are left looking at boring dialogue that drags on and on and on until the big twist is being revealed. And then there is the ending, that means just about nothing. Why did I watch an hour and a half of that? What was with the completely surreal situations? Why was I subjected to the clunky dialogue? Was the movie made by sadistic killers to torture the viewers as well? I hope you never find out, because my recommendation is to avoid the move at all costs.
